Dieting and Cottage Cheese

Who says cottage cheese has to be boring? Cottage cheese has long been a synonymous with diets. The minute you decide to diet, you immediately think of cottage cheese and lettuce! Despite its bad image cottage cheese is still great for slimmers at an average 25 calories per 1oz. This compares brilliantly with hard cheese which starts at 120 calories per 1oz and only increase depending on which type you eat.

If you feel you don’t like cottage cheese, it may be worth another try. It has certainly improved dramatically over the past couple of years with new interesting flavours. We can recommend Safeway’s new range which we have tasted. The flavours are Roasted Vegetable and Ricotta Cheese, Lime and Coriander and Thai Style Chicken.

Cottage cheese is delicious on a jacket potato, with salad, on crispbreads or rice cakes. Add 2 eggs to a tub of cottage cheese with a filling of your choice, mix and bake in the oven on moderate heat till golden brown and you will have a beautiful pastry less quiche!
