Cellulite is a problem for many women and tends to appear on the thighs, stomach and bottom, giving an orange peel affect to the skin. Cellulite can unfortunately appear at any time from puberty to menopause. In recent years there has been no shortage of cures, from creams to lotions and herbal pills. All promising to reduce the dimples in the skin.
What Is Cellulite?
The medical profession believe that cellulite is simply normal fat. The outer layer of skin is linked to the tissues underneath by fibrous bands, creating a structure like a mattress. Pockets of fat sit between the bands, giving the skin a spongy appearance.
If cellulite is simply fat, then why doesn’t it collect on every overweight person? Some slim people have cellulite on their thighs whereas some overweight people don’t have cellulite at all. Sometimes people lose weight and still have cellulite but according to the medics, cellulite is simply a cosmetic problem.
Beauty experts believe cellulite is due to a clogged lymphatic system. The lymphatic system helps the body remove waste products. When the body is clogged up with too many waste products and toxins, for example, caffeine and alcohol, these are stored in the fat cells. Too many toxins can cause fluid retention between the fat cells, making the problem worse.
Treatments
There are various remedies which claim to make cellulite disappear. There is a subdermal remedy therapy (a deep muscle massage) and many gadgets which emit electrical impulses that tone muscles and improve the overall skin texture. Others massage the layers of skin below the surface, to move excess body fluid. Daily use of anti-cellulite or lotions is also claimed to improve the circulation in problem areas and give the skin a smoother appearance. These creams are long term and should be initially used for six weeks.
The best answer to cellulite is staying in shape. You need to consume fewer calories than you burn up. The best way to achieve this is eat less, drink less alcohol and do some exercise. Aerobic exercises such as swimming, walking and cycling are recommended. Concentrate the exercise on the problem area.
Diet wise reducing alcohol, caffeine and nicotine are a must. Eat lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and drink plenty of water.
Putting into action all of these recommendations is the only solution. Please remember removing cellulite takes a lot of hard work, determination and patience. As slimmers you should be well versed in all of these!
