Eating a good breakfast is crucial to help your weight loss programme. This is because it keeps your blood-sugar levels stable, so you'll be less likely to crave calorie-filled mid morning snacks. Research shows that high-protein and high-carbohydrate foods can keep your appetite satisfied. If you are getting bored with your breakfast choice or you do not have much time to eat in the mornings, do not use this as an excuse to skip breakfast. Here are some breakfast suggestions to suit all lifestyles.
Weekly Breakfast Ideas
Monday: Orange & Banana Smoothie
Make this drink with 2 peeled and cut oranges, 2 peeled bananas and low fat Greek yoghurt. Blend in a food processor and serve immediately.
Tuesday: Posh Toast
Instead of boring toast try toasted, seeded bread or a seeded roll topped with a luxury jam. Remember to count the extra calories for the jam (check this with your personal consultant)
Wednesday: Citrus Treat
Use half a grapefruit. Remove flesh and cut into pieces. Add grapefruit to orange segments, chopped black grapes and kiwi. Refill grapefruit with fruit salad. Good as a starter for entertaining.
Thursday: Sweet & Sour
Remove crusts from 4 slices of bread. Dip bread into 2 beaten eggs with a little milk. Dry fry or use low calorie spray, till golden brown. Serve piled with sliced strawberries. Drizzle with a little honey (count calories) or sprinkle granulated sweetener.
Friday: Banana or Prune Porridge
Porridge is one of the best breakfasts you can eat. Make with half milk, half water and top with banana or prunes. Prunes are excellent for fibre. Artificial sweetener if desired.
Saturday: Smoked Salmon & Scrambled Egg Roll Scramble 2 eggs per person, add 1oz chopped smoked salmon. Flavour with chive and black pepper. Serve on a lightly toasted roll.
Sunday: Smoked Haddock or Kipper
Try to increase your intake of fish. Especially oily fish. If the family aren’t keen on fish, we all tend to have an individual breakfast. So this is a good opportunity to increase your fish intake. It’s quck to cook and serve with grilled tomato and bread. Try to eat fish at least 3 times a week. |
