Wait If You Can

After a meal you may be tempted to pile your plate with more, but before you do, stop. It has been proved that people who wait fifteen minutes before having extra helpings feel fuller and more satisfied than those who immediately go back for more. So if you’re still hungry after food, give yourself some time before indulging again.

Learn To Relax

Stress may result in an increase in body fat. Studies on stress show it can trigger the ‘starvation’ response where our bodies slow down as if preparing for a famine. This means we need fewer calories to keep our weight steady. But more importantly, many people inadvertently change their eating habits when they’re stressed. For example, you might rely on takeaway meals because you don’t have the time or inclination to cook. Perhaps you constantly snack on the move, not paying attention to what you eat. Maybe you drink more alcohol in an effort to relax. The overall outcome is an increase in calories, which results in weight gain. Some people also find they get stressed about their diet or weight, especially if they’ve gained a pound or haven’t lost as much as they’d hoped. The good news is that exercising regularly is one of the best ways to beat stress. It also stimulates the release of endorphins, the body’s own natural feel good chemicals and of course burns calories.

Avoid Fad Diets

We know they’re tempting but they won’t help you lose weight in the long term. The current Hollywood trend, set by celebrities such as Geri Halliwell and Jennifer Aniston, is for low carbohydrate diets. But nutrition experts say that these these type of diets can be particularly disruptive to the body’s system. They cause your body to rely mainly on fats for fuel when carbohydrate reserves get too low. This might sound like the perfect way to lose weight, but because fat cannot be used as the sole source of energy, waste products called ketones are produced. A build-up of ketones in the blood can be toxic, making you feel tired and ill. A balanced diet is always best. Take a look at Super Slim’s High Protein diet, it is well balanced and very healthy.

Buy Individual Portions

You’re far less likely to overindulge if you buy single items such as mini cakes or biscuits that are individually wrapped rather than large items which you have to divide yourself. It reduces the temptation to have seconds or cut off another slice! Make the most of dishes available in small portions, too, such as ready-meals and pot desserts. Buying single servings from the deli counter in supermarkets is also a good idea.

Enjoy Life To The Full

Put up a list of 10 pleasurable activities that don’t involve eating on your notice board or fridge. As well as focusing your thoughts on things other than food, it can also help you to find other sources of entertainment. Your list might include calling a friend, writing a letter or e-mail, taking a relaxing bath, or snuggling up with a good book or your favourite magazine. Tai Chi and yoga are also becoming very popular.
