After getting fed up with being out of breath most of the time, struggling up and down stairs and generally struggling to do everyday tasks I decided to take some action.

I got to the point where I was receiving medication from the doctor for pain in my knee and I felt physically and mentally exhausted for the majority of the waking hours in the day. Whilst, I was suitable happy with my weight and my size, health became an issue and I decided to try and lose some weight.

Once I had got it straight in my head and made the decision to lose some weight, I was determined to stick to it as best I could. I was realistic in my approach and set myself a goal of a little at a time knowing that time is the essence and that the weight would not just “fall off”. Patience I think is a major part of losing weight as it takes time.

I made some changes to my diet, not to drastic. Healthy alternatives like low fat spreads, sugar free goods and skimmed milk. I made changes to my cooking methods such as grilling instead of frying and steaming instead of boiling. I started to eat more fruit and vegetables. Basically, I re-educated myself in the kitchen department and became more aware of what was ‘actually’ going into my mouth. I learned how to read labels and actually understand them which helped me enormously.

Slowly and surely my hard work paid off. I began to lose 1-2 pounds per week, and know in total I’ve lost 3 stone and managing to maintain my weight sensibly.

I feel like a new woman, I wear clothes that I would have never worn before. My knee no longer needs medication. And I can breathe. I, on the whole feel 110% better for losing weight.

My advice to anyone thinking about it, set yourself a realistic goal, be patient, don’t be to hard on yourself we all have bad days and finally, think positive the benefits are tremendous.
