Test Your Skin Type
Most of us already know our skin type (dry, normal/combination or oily). But for those who may not be quite sure, and for the surprising number who think they have dry skin when, in fact, it is perfectly normal - or just a bit sensitive - here is a basic rule-of-thumb test for determining what sort of skin you really have.
- Before the test, cleanse skin and remove any excess oil from the surface, then wait about half an hour.
- Place a piece of adhesive tape (about 4-5" long) across cheeks and nose.
- Remove it and examine carefully. If it is covered in flaky white particles, your skin is dry. If there are no flaky particles but a wet-looking sheen, your skin is oily. If, however, the tape shows both a degree of flakiness (from the cheek area) and sheen (from the nose), then your skin is normal/combination.
