Foot Care

  1. Daily attention goes a long way towards getting feet in better shape and they respond very readily to such consideration

  2. Scrub feet regularly with a stiff bristle brush, toe by toe, arch, sole, heel.  Pumice any calluses or hard spots.

  3. Massage feet often with a body lotion, working around each toe, particularly the heel area.

  4. Powder feet, this helps absorb moisture.

  5. Pamper feet with cologne before putting on shoes or stockings.

  6. For dry sandpaper heels and soles try an overnight treatment of petroleum jelly rubbed well in then sealed in with cotton socks.

  7. For tired feet plunge them into hot water softened with bath salts or oil, then put them into very cold water.

  8. For sweaty feet, dab twice a day with surgical spirit, then powder, particularly in hot weather.

  9. Blisters are helped by sprinkling on cornflour.

  10. Go barefoot whenever possible - on sand, grass, carpets - feet need air and freedom.

  11. Check stockings and tights, they can lead to foot problems in the same way as shoes do if they don't fit properly.

  12. It is particularly important to cut toe nails straight across to prevent the possibility of an ingrowing nail.  Always use nail clippers, never scissors.  Feet that hurt should be taken to a chiropodist for treatment, even a simple corn should be professionally attended to.
