Herb Crown Loaf
Makes 1 x 2 lb loaf or 2 x 1 lb loaves = 145 calories per small loaf
- 1 lb strong white flour
- 12 ounce tepid water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon oil for greasing only
- 1 oz butter/margarine
- 4 tablespoons freshly chopped herbs
- 1 sachet dried yeast.
- 5 tablespoons semi-skimmed milk to glaze
Method
- Mix flour, salt and margarine.
- Stir in yeast and water with wooden spoon.
- Make into a smooth dough.
- Knead for 10 min on floured board.
- Place dough in bowl and cover with plastic food bag.
- Leave in warm place until doubled in size, about 45 minutes.
- Knead again, working in herbs a spoonful at a time.
- Knead well until all herbs are evenly mixed, leave again to rise.
- When risen cook in 1lb tins or 2lb tin for approx 20-25 minutes, gas mark 7.
