Letter from Colin PritchardDear Fellow Dieters Almost a year to the day on the 3rd June 1992, I weighed 20 stone 1lb with a chest measurement of a little under 50" and a waist of 44". I must confess that I had tried to diet in the past, but after the initial success - only piled the weight back on .... AND MORE! The buttons on my work-shirts stretched almost to bursting point and it became very difficult (to say the least) to get suits for work 'off the peg' in my size. I always seemed to get tired very quickly when exercising (what little exercise I did) and even broke sweat just walking upstairs to my office. I had always been big ever since I was a baby and although I wasn't happy about being big I didn't see that I would ever change. One evening, when out drinking with a good friend (after about three or four pints) he mentioned that his fiancee had joined a local slimming club so that she could lose some weight ready for their wedding. Apparently, she had lost about 21 lbs in a very short time and what's more was still eating lots of food. Just a few days later Nigel and his fiancee Joanne visited my wife and I - we were so astonished at the weight loss Joanne had achieved and she spoke so enthusiastically about the diet that we both had to give it a try. The following Wednesday I walked rather sheepishly into a room full with gossiping women - I was the only bloke there .... and wished I was anywhere else. It was my turn to step on the scales .... 20 stone 1lb .... the words of encouragement that Cath gave to me so enthusiastically somehow seemed overshadowed by my shame for letting myself ever get to that weight in the first place. I remember thinking to myself that if I ever got out of the room, then I would never come back again!!! What changed that view? At the end of class that first evening Cath kept all the 'new starts' behind for a few words of explanation. When I had had a chance to read through the Fatbuster diet I decided to give it a try. One week later I had lost my first four pounds!! Encouraged by this weight loss and the enthusiasm of Cath and her very useful presentations on healthy eating - I went from strength to strength. On many occasions I managed to obtain the largest weight loss in the class and apart from the satisfaction that that brings - I got tremendous encouragement from all the other class members. After losing three stone Cath reluctantly agreed to set me a target weight (I'd still got an awful long way to go) - could this be possible? - at last I could see the possibility of a new super slim me. Thanks to the enthusiastic and informative talks by Cath - the encouragement of all the class members - the help and encouragement of my wife Karen - and last but not least Super Slim and the Fatbuster diet ... I HIT MY TARGET!!! Yes - on 10th February 1993, I weighed in at 13 stone 11lbs (target 13 stone 13lbs). Since that time I have managed to maintain my weight (having weighed as little as 13 stone 2lbs) I have now increased my 'treats' to 600 calories a day!!! which surely makes this a diet which is too good to be true. My chest measures a healthy 38" and my waist line has fallen to 32" (something that only used to be possible in my dreams). I suppose that there is no need to state the obvious - I don't have too much trouble finding clothes to fit me anymore!!! I feel that my health has improved dramatically. I no longer get exhausted when exercising - in fact I now regularly run in 10K races. The stairs at work no longer make me perspire like they did before. So .... to the future .... I intend to continue going to class each Wednesday evening even if it is just to weigh-in and keep an eye on my weight. I feel that over the last twelve months SUPER SLIM has offered me a total 'eating re-education process' not just a 'diet for today'. Finally it remains only for me to say a big thank you to Cath, SUPER SLIM and also to all the members of the Wednesday class for all the help, support and encouragement that they have given to me over the last twelve months - without which I know that I would never have reached my TARGET. All the best, Colin. |
